Guelaguetza Festival
I’m going to
talk about a festival that takes place on Mexico specifically in the state of
Oaxaca, this is the Guelaguetza, it brings together people from different parts
of our country and even foreign people come to see. It showcases regional
folkloric dance and music, keeping alive a tradition that has been handed down
for centuries. Held in July, most of the events take place at a large
amphitheater perched atop a hill which has a very complex infrastructure. For a
more intimate experience, many surrounding communities host smaller versions of
the festival.
The
Guelaguetza is simply the most important festival in Oaxaca. It is the meeting
of the eight regions of the state on Fortin Hill.
Each region
has the most valuable traditions and cultural heritage through dance, music,
songs and costumes. At the end of each entry are given away to the public hats,
fruit, food, crafts, and more.
A
surprising fact is that each region makes its own band. Of course, live music
is played throughout the event.
The
Guelaguetza is a high expression of artistic and traditional Oaxaca, an impressive
gathering of people, music, dance, heritage from every corner of this cultural state.
An event that will leave a lasting impression on anyone who has the opportunity to live it.
